Biography
As a child, I grew up in Eastern Kentucky. I finally settled in Sumiton, Alabama, where I went to Dora High School. I have been in Alabama ever since. I have been married to my wife, Leah, since December 2002. We have two children.
I am also a huge Tennessee fan. Despite that fact, I love it here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Go Big Orange!

B.A., M.P.A from the University of Alabama and a M.Ed. (Secondary Social Studies), and M.A. Ed. (Educational Leadership) from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Recognition
I am the recipient of the University of Alabama Excellence in Teaching Social Studies Award 2013 and Recognition Award in 2014. I have been named the Alabama Council of Social Studies Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 2013, State of Alabama Secondary District VI Teacher of the Year 2009, Hoover City Schools Teacher of the Year 2009, Spain Park Teacher of the Year 2009, State of Alabama Economics Teacher of the Year 2008, and Teacher of the Year, High School Level: John Morton Excellence in the Teaching of Economics Award by GATE (Global Association of Teachers of Economics) together with the (National) Council on Economic Education, October 2008. I was selected in 2011 for The Classroom Economist program by the Federal Reserve Bank Atlanta and earned the credential as Master Teacher of Economics 2010.
Publications
My lesson plan publications include Teaching Financial Crises: Monetary Policy and the Recent Financial Crisis and Understanding Financial Markets 2007-2009, The Trial of Monty Terry, The Fed’s Passport to Globalization, Public Policy and the Press, and Don’t Be Discouraged. Served as the SME (subject matter expert) authoring the online course in regular curriculum economics for the State of Alabama ACCESS program, 2009.
Experience
I have 28 years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience as Instructional Leader at Spain Park High School 2012-2014.Teaching experience includes AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, economics, and government at the high school level and through ACCESS, as well as at UAB teaching Introduction to Macroeconomics and Economics for Educators.
Professional Development
I have received professional development grants through the Gilder Lehrman Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Council on Economic Education, Bill of Rights Institute, C-Span, and the New York Stock Exchange.

Biography
Kevin Thomas currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In the spring of 1999 Mr. Thomas graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. While at the Capstone Mr. Thomas served as the baritone section leader for The University of Alabama “Million Dollar Band” as well as being the principal euphonium in the Alabama Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and the Tuba/Euphonium ensemble. During his undergraduate years Mr. Thomas was a founding member of the Alabama Tuba Quartet, winning the Colonial Tuba Euphonium Institute International Quartet competition. Mr. Thomas won a euphonium audition with The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band stationed in Langley, Virginia in 1997, and was a finalist for The United States Army Band “Perishing’s Own” stationed in Washington, D.C. After leaving the University he taught for two years at West Limestone High School in Limestone County, Alabama. Following his time in North Alabama, he accepted an associate band director position at Shades Valley High School and Gresham Middle School in Birmingham, Alabama. He returned to The University of Alabama in 2003 as a graduate teaching assistant with University Bands. While there, Mr. Thomas was responsible for assisting in the production and teaching of half-time shows, and assisted with pep rallies and appearances of the “Million Dollar Band.” Mr. Thomas was also the director of the basketball pep bands overseeing performances on ESPN, CBS and performing at he NCAA men’s basketball tournament. From 2005 to 2014 Mr. Thomas served as music consultant and instructor for The University of Alabama “Million Dollar Band.” He has also served as the assistant announcer for the “Million Dollar Band” at bowl games and appearances around the country. Mr. Thomas served as the Director of Bands at Fayette County High School in Fayette, Alabama from 2005-2015. His bands consistently received superior ratings at contests and festivals. In July 2015, Mr. Thomas accepted the position as Director of Bands at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he now serves as Assistant Principal.
